The Referral Academy courses are facilitated by Steve Bauer, MBA. Steve and his wife Beth are owners of The Three Marketeers, a 38 year old promotions and marketing consulting firm. We would like to share with you the ideas, experience, influences, and personal strengths that led to our creation of The Referral Academy.

The Referral Academy was born out of Steve Bauer's desire to share his 25 years of business experience and professional development with other professionals who are struggling to find the right path to greater success. Through his active involvement in numerous business associations, it became apparent that "asking for referrals" was a major challenge for many of the people he met. Several years ago he began his quest to learn more about referral techniques. As he shared his findings with his consulting clients, he came to realize that the challenge wasn't just in "the asking," but also in how to implement the recommended techniques in an active and focused manner that produced not just referrals, but very targeted introductions that provide the best results. Since most referral generation seminars and authors focus more on developing the proper word tracks rather than strategic implementation, Steve began to develop a program that addressed both areas. This marriage of skill development and defined marketing strategy is the basis of The Referral Academy, and it taps in perfectly to Steve's experiences and strengths.

Experience:
Eight years in the corporate environment with The CIT Group and 17 years with The Three Marketeers -- the 38 year old company that Steve and Beth own and which was built upon successful referral generation.

Formal education: Germantown Friends School '80, Bucknell University '84, Villanova University MBA '93.

Informal education: Steve is or has been a member and facilitator of numerous professional development groups and associations, including Sales and Marketing Executives International, Philadelphia Chapter (SMEI); Mid-Atlantic Consultants Network, The Union League of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Direct Marketing Association; Flourtown Business Association; and facilitator for "Goal Cultivators," an ongoing professional development program developed by The Strategic Coach. All of these groups provide many opportunities for continuing education and professional development, of which Steve has readily availed himself. Steve is an avid business reader and enjoys sharing in conversations with other professionals regarding the latest trends in business strategy, networking, and referral generation.

Family background: We come from a long line of learners. Steve has been able to tap into the knowledge of his father -- an attorney and top rated professor at Wharton, along with that of his father-in-law, Ken Erdman -- an entrepreneur, consultant, business author (Network Your Way to Success), and speaker.

Clients: Work we have done with consulting clients over the past few years has helped us uncover and test the best practices of our referral cultivation concept.

Coaching: Not only does Steve help coach his business clients, but he also coaches and leads in many other aspects of his life including Little League baseball, soccer, basketball, Boy Scouts, Youth Groups, and Sunday School.

Service to others: Using our own gifts to help others is an integral part of the Bauer value system. Steve serves the community and beyond through his active involvement in Rotary International (Past President of the Chestnut Hill Club), The First Presbyterian Church of Springfield, Boy Scouts (Asst. Scout Master), and the Flourtown-Erdenheim Little League Board of Directors (V.P. and coach). This desire to help others carries through in his personal business goals and his client-centric approach.
